You’ve seen beef tallow lip balm and beef tallow face cream, but there are so many other ways to use beef tallow for skin care that you’ve probably never thought of…
Here are some of the best ways to use beef tallow for skin care:
1. Sunscreen
Beef tallow makes a great base for sunscreen. You can make your own tallow sunscreen by mixing together 2 oz rendered beef tallow, 3 oz olive oil, 2 oz coconut oil, 1 oz beeswax and 2 oz of non-nano zinc oxide.

Commercial sunscreens made by companies like Banana Boat and Hawaiian Tropic contain sun blocking chemicals like oxybenzone and homosalate which have been linked to endocrine disruption and cancer.
A natural, mineral sunscreen made with tallow will not only keep your skin protected from the sun, but will heal and nourish the skin on a deep level and… no toxins!
2. Leave-in conditioner
Did you know that you can use tallow in your hair? Yes, it’s true, and it works really well.
The next time you come out of the shower, try combing a small amount of tallow balm through your wet hair. You’ll end up with softer hair once it dries, leaving the hair more manageable and shiny (the key though is to use a very small amount and to warm it up in your hands before applying).
You might also want to try massaging your scalp with tallow balm before washing your hair. This will help exfoliate off any dry flakes and after you wash it, will leave you with a soft, lustrous hair.

3. Hair styling cream
You can also use tallow on dry hair!
Tallow balm has a thickness and sturdiness to it. So, it works well as a styling balm. Just take a small amount, rub it in your hands and comb it through dry hair. This will give your hair texture and shape.

4. Base for a scrub
Every now and then, it’s good to exfoliate your skin with a body scrub. However, a lot of the body scrubs you will see on the market are full of artificial fragrance, thickeners and preservatives. Some of them literally contain plastic beads?!
You deserve so much better.
To make your own tallow body scrub, mix some granulated cane sugar and/or coffee grounds into some whipped tallow balm (you want it to be a thick paste, around 50% tallow and 50% sugar/coffee), add in some essential oils if you want and scrub with it while in the shower.

5. Deodorant
This is a beef tallow hack that will save you tons of money.
Mix equal parts tallow balm with baking soda, apply to your under arms and BOOM. You have the cheapest, most effective deodorant known to man.

6. Base for a face mask
Face masks are so expensive these days.
Did you know that you can use tallow as a base to make your own homemade face masks?
Our favorite recipe is 3 tbsp of bentonite clay, 1 tbsp whipped tallow, 1 tsp raw apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp raw honey.
This mask will help clear your skin of blemishes and leave it super moisturized.

7. Lip balm
Tallow balm can also be used as a lip balm. It’s one of the best things you can put on your lips and is free from all the toxins usually used in commercial lip balms like fragrance and other petrochemicals which may be linked to cancer.

Just smooth your tallow balm onto your lips, or…make your own tallow lip balm with 3.5 g of beeswax, 13.5 g of tallow, essential oil and vitamin E to preserve.

8. Facial moisturizer
You can (of course) use beef tallow as a skin moisturizer and specifically, a facial moisturizer that will smooth fine lines, clear the skin and leave you with an attractive glow. We go over in this post the comedogenic rating of tallow and why it’s safe to use on your face.

9. Body lotion
Tallow balm can be used pretty much anywhere on the body. Use it post-shower as a body cream by rubbing a small amount in your hands and apply just as you would lotion.
Tallow balm is especially good as a post-shaving balm. It really calms down the skin and keeps the skin smooth and bump-free!

10. Tinted moisturizer
For those days where you want a more dewy, natural look, just take a bit of tallow balm in your hands and pump in a bit of liquid foundation.
Rub to warm it up and then massage into your face just like how you would regular moisturizer.
You are left with a dewy glow with just a little bit of coverage. Perfect for casual, summer days.

11. Eye cream
Those who use eye cream, swear by it, but why is it so expensive?! And why is it full of toxic fragrances, parabens and preservatives?
You do not want to be putting those harmful toxins near such a delicate area.
Tallow balm can be used as an eye cream the same way it can be used on your face.
Just apply a very small amount to the area around your eyes, and you’ll see how deeply moisturizing it is!

Tallow contains a natural form of vitamin A (retinol) which is supposed to smooth fine lines and give a fresh, more youthful appearance. It really does work!
12. Hand cream
And last but not least, hand cream.
If you are someone who works with their hands all day or gets super dry hands in the winter, you don’t want to go anywhere without tallow balm.
Tallow has a profound healing effect on dry, rough skin. Just take a small amount and rub in your hands, make sure to get the back too. Your hands will transform in a matter of days.

Final thoughts:
Beef tallow for skin care is so versatile and multi-purpose.
Why buy a whole cabinet full of expensive skin creams when you can buy just one jar of good quality tallow balm?!
Not only will you be avoiding all of the random toxins added to these ‘specialty’ skin care products, but you’ll be saving money in the long run.
But the real trick… is to invest in the best beef tallow balm possible.
You want to make sure that the tallow balm you buy is made from grass fed & finished tallow.
Tallow that says it’s ‘grass fed’ may have only been fed grass for the beginning of its life and then switched to pesticide-sprayed grains near the end.
This is common practice in cattle farming, feeding grains near the end to make the cow fatter right before it’s slaughtered.
You don’t want to be spreading fat on your face from a cow who’s been fed these pesticide-sprayed grains because animals store toxins (including pesticide) in their fat. This could lead to breakouts and other skin issues down the line.
So, really make sure your tallow balm is grass fed & finished.
You’ll also want to make sure you choose a tallow balm that is whipped. Not only does it feel better to use a whipped balm, but the whipped texture will give an even distribution on the skin.
Our Evil Goods Whipped Honey Tallow Balm is grass fed & finished, whipped and is the perfect option for anyone looking for an all-in-one skin care product.
